December 16th – 20th, 2019 Round-UpDecember 23, 2019
Welcome, one and all, to the final weekly round-up of the year! That’s right, this is the last one this year. Why? Because next week, bar a book spotlight that I’d already agreed to, I’m taking a week off. Between last week and this week though, we’ve got plenty to go through, so let’s dive right into it.
We’re going to start with the run-down of posts that went live last week, split by category and sorted alphabetically:
Books (Spotlights and Guest Posts)
Comics and Manga
I’m happy with that. While not my most productive week, it was a good mix of stuff. I am planning to get back on track with a few things going forward mind you, but more on that in a minute. First things first, let’s see what the top 5 most viewed older posts were last week:
5th: The Sonic Movie Trailer Is Fake! Paramount And SEGA Tricked Us! – This one pops in and out of these lists. With all the hype building for the movie since the new trailer landed, it doesn’t surprise me though. Anyway, it’s a tongue-in-cheek post that should not be taken seriously
4th: Haunted Office: fact or fiction? – This made me smile. I love doing these posts when I have the time, and the Haunted Office one was a lot of fun. If you want to see a video of an alleged haunting and get my take on it, this is the post for you!
3rd: Fire Force Ep. 10 – The Promise – Fire Force pops up again. Which makes me glad that there’s a lot of it coming this week. Anyway, this was a decent episode that served as a good stop-gap between key events.
2nd: In Desperate Need of Love: Two Crude Dudes – If you have never played this game, and you enjoy retro fighters, you need to. Both the arcade original and the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis port were awesome and there’s a lot of fun to be had.
1st: A&H Club Volume 1 by Rick Griffin [Graphic Novel Review – Furry / Lesbian / Drama] – Furry lesbian is one of the top searches that found my site last year. And this year. Still, this is a really good release. Not as explicit as you may expect, and full of both heartbreaking and heart-warming scenes. IMO, this is Rick Griffin at his best.
What can you expect this week? Lots of anime! I’ve finally caught up with Fire Force, and so you’ll be getting three posts this week, bringing us up to date. That means that Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will all see me reviewing clumps of episodes. There’s plenty to unpack too, and getting my thoughts down for these felt good.
That’s not all though. From the world of comics, we have the penultimate issue of the year for IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog series. And for wrestling fans, we have a review of OVW Christmas Chaos 2019, where every match took place inside a steel cage!
Of course, there are also some queer books getting a spotlight, so look out for some mroe diverse reads too!
In terms of my own projects, things are pretty interesting. We’re hard at work editing Cassie Tam 5, which is so, so scary because that means I’m done with the series for the time being. I am working on a few more books though. Ailuros actually started life as a movie script and is an LGBTQ sci-fi/horror. Meanwhile, I technically have four drafted books in another series. It was originally meant to be for kids, but it’s way too dark. I’ll be editing that into one, longer novel I think.
Voice acting is proving fun. I have a little too much ambient noise in my recording space for my liking, but I’m okay when it comes to audio production, so getting rid of it isn’t too bad. As it stands, I’ve been offered three roles in total from my auditions. I need to get a page together for those really.
On the video game front, I have the script done for my Visual Novel. I also have the character models done. And I have most of the visual assets. So, the next step is getting it all put together. After that, it’ll time to work with music and sound effects. And maybe voice acting. If I can get some decent VAs that will work within my budget, it’ll be fully voiced in English. We shall see though. The main thing with it is that it’s a horror story, it’s linear (so technically a kinetic/sound novel more than a VN), and it’ll be a quick one to get through. By that I mean it should take 30-60 minutes, depending on how the sound works for me. Which means I’ll likely be selling it relatively cheaply.
As far as the site goes, we’re still growing. Hits/visitors are rising, I’m getting a few more offers for advertorials (though they fall through more than I’d like), and things are generally looking up. I need to do something to increase income from it though. So, I may start pushing Ko-Fi more, and may yet open a Patreon. We shall see. The point is, I do believe that I can make a living between my projects, but it takes time. Wish me luck!
And…that’s about it! So, thank you all for sticking with me. Do you have a particular post you’re looking forward to this week? Or a favorite from last week? Let me know in the comments below.
If you enjoy my content, then please consider making a one-time donation of $3 to me through Ko-Fi! All money received goes towards keeping the site running. Thank you.
