Hey everybody. This post represents something I’ve been considering for a little while now. In short, though, something has to change. Honestly, I feel like I should have made changes already but haven’t really had the drive to do so. Now, things are happening that are kinda forcing the issue. Some of those things are bad, some of them are pretty good.
I’m not going to do into any deep detail here. I’m just not the sort to write up too much about my troubles on any sort of regular basis. I’ve spoken to some of you privately about bits and pieces anyway, but for the rest of you, the main point is, I’m currently in therapy again. It’s rough, largely because I have so much to unpack. A lot of this stuff goes way back, and I should have probably dealt with it all long before now. Other things are more recent, and I can’t really talk about them just yet anyway because a blog post is not how I want certain people to find out what has happened.
On the happier end of things, just as I finished up the last big freelance writing job I had, I was offered a new permanent job with the health service. All being well, I’ll start on December 7th, and honestly, I am so excited! I’ve felt so low not being able to bring in a regular income. To be moving back to a more familiar work environment, and in a role that is actually helping people, is such a relief.
This all has a knock-on effect though. I’m sure most of you have noticed the shift towards book spotlights as the most common content here. Now, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the book spotlight posts and absolutely still want to support my fellow authors. However, the sheer number of them going live has been down to the lack of motivation to write anything else. I want to fix that, and get things back to being more balanced. Which means putting a plan in place. So, here’s what’s going to happen:
I’m taking a break for the next two weeks. I had planned to take a break for the first week of December anyway, but this week, I just don’t have anything else ready to go. The exception to this will be if any paid advertising posts come in. I get them once in a while, and I’m happy to accommodate people that way. Now, week two of December begins on December 7th, which coincides with my predicted start date for the new job. I don’t know how that’s going to change my writing habits just yet. So, I’ve already set up book spotlights for Monday to Thursday that week. Friday, I may skip over.
Once we hit December 14th though? I’m hoping to start instigating a pattern of posts. My aim is to use these two weeks to start queuing up posts for the rest of December. Maybe start some new features, catch up with my comic and anime reviews, all that good stuff. It will become less likely that you’ll to see more than one post a day, but I’m hoping the mix of posts will make it worthwhile.
Just because I’m taking a break from posting doesn’t mean I’m disappearing though. I’m going to be working hard to read more posts and actually start commenting a bit more again. I’ll also likely still be active on social media. So, expect to see me around plenty.
And that’s about it. As the title says, the times they are a-changin’, and I hope they’re changing for the better. Stay safe everyone, and I’ll catch you on your posts!
