Ailuros [Book Announcement]

If you’ve been paying attention to my Twitter feed, you’ll know that I’ve been pushing a book titled ‘Ailuros’ in all the pitch events. Well, after months of querying agents and publishers alike, I am very happy to announce that a contract has been signed, and Ailuros has found a home with Fractured Mirror Publishing!

So, let’s go into a little detail here.

When can you expect Ailuros to be released?

Well, we’re working to get it out in September 2021. I know, a year is a fair while to wait, isn’t it? But, Fractured Mirror Publishing absolutely get what I’m doing with the story, and between us, we’re going to make this the best book it can be.

What can you expect from the book?

In some ways, Ailuros is everything you’d normally expect from me. It has a sci-fi setting with some cool tech that’s analogous to things we have today. It features queer leads (in this case an AMAB genderfluid character with a male partner), but without their orientation being the focal point. It even pays homage to some of my favourite things.

At the same time though, this is a different beast to The Cassie Tam Files. When I was doing the pitch events, I used this description:

In the < far/near > future, Alex and Josh must face < a/their own > monster if they are to salvage < a microgravity holiday unit/their relationship >. These < are not > separate stories.

This is a slightly experimental piece from me, at least in how the story is set out. It won’t be straight-forward prose. I absolutely took inspiration from the likes of Mark Z, Danielewski and Steven Hall here.

So, basically, if you know my work, you can expect something different but familiar.

And that’s about it. For now, at least. You can expect more details to float in as we move towards the release date. This is a book I’m very proud of though, and I’m looking forward to getting it out there in front of everyone.
