Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san Episode 6 [Anime Review]

Welcome, one all, to my continuing episodic review series for Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san. This was short and sweet with plenty of fun character interactions. Let’s have a look at what happened.

What Do They Do In Their Down Time?

So, this one began with Nekoyama at home. Her older sister, Tamaki, arrives home hungover having spent the night somewhere. When she woke up, she was on a train, unsure how she got there or who the two women she was with were. You see, we learn very quickly that Tamaki likes girls too, but ahs the habit of dating several at once. Anyway, she wants Nekoyama to go and get her some sports drinks and grapefruits to help with the hangover. Nekoyama would rather go early morning or late evening as that’s when people walk their dogs.

Meanwhile, Inugami is woken by her dogs and proceeds to haul Aki – and her little sisters – out to do some shopping with her while she walks her fluffy buddies. After grabbing what they need, and Inugami stating that they look like newlyweds shopping together, they exit the shop to find Nekoyama with the dogs.

Nekoyama was upset that Inugami didn’t call her, which Inugami explains was because she’d feel bad dragging her out on a day off. The pair walk home together and Inugami gets distracted by a cat, which upsets Nekoyama. Inugami explains that she was only looking because she can’t be with Nekoyama all the time and Nekoyama says that of course that would upset her. The episode ends with the two pondering what they were talking about.

Surprising Sweetness

This was probably my favourite episode so far, mostly because it did a good job of balancing a few things. From an art standpoint, the show has been really consistent and this was no exception. The animation remained perfectly watchable with all the little animal-based nods thrown in. I loved Nekoyama’s casual outfit here too; the tomboyish look really suited her.

The gags were decent again. My favourite was Nekoyama spotting the resemblance between Inugami and her dogs, but not noticing it with Aki and her sisters because her sisters are cute. The difference in how Inugami treated dragging Aki and Nekoyama out was kinda sweet too. She may mess with Aki a bit, but she does clearly view Nekoyama differently. And the ending was great. It was so close to an acknowledgment of feelings from Nekoyama. I do hope we get a confession of love by the end of it.
