Mystery Blogger Award

A big thank you to Matt In The Hat for nominating for this one! It has been a while since I did this tag, so it’s a good one to revisit. It was originally created by Okoto Enigma, who said:

“The Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion. Now, onto the rules:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. You have to nominate 10 – 20 people
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

3 Things About Myself

  1. What video games I’m good at has changed over the years, and it’s all to do with a shift in reflexes. I used to be good at fighters, but I can’t seem to keep up so well anymore. On the other hand, I’m better at 3D platformers than I used to be, 100%’ing the Spyro Reignited Trilogy with ease, and at one point being in the worldwide Top 10 for speedrunning Imperial Tower on Sonic Forces for the Xbox One.
  2. Nostalgia is important to me. I love finding new things, don’t get me wrong, but I am intensely loyal to my old favourites. If anything, even a little nod back to an older version will be enough to sell me on a new version of an old franchise, at least in most cases.
  3. I struggle to sleep. Between the decline in my physical health and a bunch of mental health issues, getting to sleep sucks, and staying asleep is worse. So, I get to spend my days in a tired haze.

My Best Posts

This is hard to quantify. Okay, let’s split ti up a bit.

If we’re going on outright popularity, then my best posts are my exploration of the Dogman cryptid, my comparison of the anime and manga versions of Attack on Titan, and my review for the furry lesbian comic, A&H Club.

My personal favourites to work on though would be either my look at an allegedly haunted office, or my post about being genderfluid.

Matt’s Questions

Do you watch anime in the day or night time?

This has changed. I used to vary it up but mostly watch at night, as that was my free time. Since leaving my day job and taking on review discs for a couple fo distributors, I mostly watch during the day now. In fact, I binge watch way more than I used to.

What fictional item would want to have in real-life (it can be from anime, manga, video game or movie)?

Oh, crikey! That’s a tough one! A working Digivice, maybe? I’d lvoe to have my own Digimon partner!

What is one anime that you think it is overrated or too mainstreamed?

Hmm…I try to avoid using the term overrated, because we like what we like, right? There have been a few that I just don’t understand the popularity of though. Sword Art Online, for example, just couldn’t stand up against .Hack//SIGN for me. And Gurren Lagann was too inconsistent for me to enjoy.

Similar to question 3, what anime do you think is underrated or it doesn’t get a lot of attention.

Wolf’s Rain. It pops up every now and then and seems to be popular when it does, then it disappears. I thought it had a great story, and a really good dub cast.

If you had the money and power to make any manga or light novel into anime, which series would you like to see?

There are a few.

Dogs: Bullets And Carnage is one. Shirow Miwa, who currently does the RWBY manga, is yet to finish it, and all we’ve had so far is an OVA collection of the prequel story. I’d love to see something high budget done with it though.

Orion. A lot of Masamune Shirow’s work gets adapted. Dominion Tank Police, Appleseed, and Ghost in the Shell are still really popular. Orion though is bonkers. It’s a one-shot book that would work well as a film, especially if the director can really capture the feel of it.

W-Juliet. Crossdressing high school romance/comedy. It would need tweaking – the manga has a lot of repetition – but could be a fun series if cut down in the right way.

Octave. My favourite yuri title. Adult, realistic romance, and a gentle pace. It’s exactly what I want when I read LGBTQ manga.

Shimanami Tasogare: Our Dreams At Dusk. Speaking of which, this covers so many bases, and so, so well, that it would be terrible if it was never adapted. It’s a really important title that shows what it means to be LGBTQ in Japan. Beautiful stuff.

So, I nominate the following. Play along or not as you wish. My questions follow.

  1. You are tasked with creating a cocktail (alcoholic or non-alcoholic is fine) based on your favourite fictional character. Who are they, what is in the drink, and why?
  2. What video game – from any era – do you think would make a good anime, and why?
  3. What fictional character do you think could be improved by one change to their personality, and what change would you make?
  4. Tea, coffee, or fresh juice?
  5. What is your favourite musical act?
