Murenase! Seton Gakuen Episode 10 [Anime Review]

Welcome, one and all, to my continued episodic review series for the anime Murenase! Seton Gakuen, aka, Seton Academy: Join The Pack. Episode 10 was certainly interesting. There were some nice moments, and a bit of intrigue too. So, let’s have a look at what happened.

Ranka x Jin

So, a big chunk of the episode was about how Ranka really likes Jin, but he insists he doesn’t like her. In truth, he was giving rather mixed signals. He did go out of his way to rescue her from the males that were chasing her (due to her being on heat). But then he told her he hates her and made her cry.

The unusual thing was that he wasn’t entirely able to maintain his stone-cold demeanor about it. The upset he caused her remained on his mind. And, when he was rejecting Anetani, while he said Hitomi was the only one for him, Ranka’s tail did sneak into his vision. In the end, they did make up too, albeit with a little help from Hitomi (she had to explain that Jin was lying when he said he hates her).

I’m still kinda mixed on them together. Jin has the tendency to be rather cruel, and Ranka is actually pretty sweet-natured. His making her cry was terrible too. At the same time though, he does appear to be softening in his own way. He goes out of his way to help others and doesn’t tend to abandon his friends. So, maybe they’ll grow to be a good couple in the end?

Anetani: Human?

Anetani is a bit of a mystery. She claims to be human – and the ears and lack of tail would certainly indicate that she is – but she doesn’t really understand humans. Well, other than that they lie and are responsible for multiple animals going extinct. Here, she was observing the cooking club on the pretense that she would be joining the Academy. In the end, we learn that she’s part of the Extinct Department at Darwin Academy and has been tasked with leading the humans to extinction.

She’s an interesting addition to the cast. I assume she is human but has been raised by animals to be used as a tool against the humans that wiped out their species. We shall see how that all plays out when she no doubt pops up for the School Festival. The downside to her is that she was used for the non-consensual grope spot. Because, you know, one woman grabbing another without permission is apparently a good thing in anime? Ugh. Hopefully, that doesn’t become a regular thing.

The Impala Tournament

King Shishino entered the Impala Tournament as agreed, but being a lion, nobody was willing to face him. Until Shiho’s Dad turned up. Shishino won and the Dad refused to accept him, asking if he really thinks he can make Shiho happy. Shishino turned on the charm and said he didn’t know, but he could spend his life with her and, when he dies, becomes the dirt that sustains the grass and continue to protect her that way. That won over Shiho’s parents. Until he said he was going to copulate, and they booted him in the face. Short, and a good mix of sweet and silly.

Overall

This one was an improvement over last week for me. It wasn’t perfect. The Anetani and Hitomi in bed scene was meh, and there wasn’t actually anything laugh out loud funny for me. At the same time though, the story was decent, and it has set up some interesting prospects going forward. It all went by really quickly too, which is usually a great sign.

So, those were my thoughts. But what about yourselves? Did you enjoy this episode? Do you agree or disagree with any of my observations? Let me know in the comments below.
