April 2019 Round-Up

Welcome, one and all, to our monthly round-up! It’s been an interesting month, and we’ve got plenty to go through, so let’s dive right into it.

Top 5 Most Viewed Posts

As always, we’ll start with the top 5 posts for April. There was a mix of old an new here, including some familiar faces.

Joint 5th:

Sonic the Hedgehog #8 [IDW Publishing] – Comic Review / Sonic the Hedgehog #12 [IDW Publishing] – Comic Review

The Blue Blur and friends got a lot of love this month. These two issues of the IDW comics particularly stood out though, it seems. So, what do we have here? Well, the debut of the adorable Whisper the Wolf, and the final issue of Year One. Both were great reads, so this cool to see.

Top 7 … Times That The Samurai Pizza Cats Got Away With Stuff

Now, this was interesting. The show itself is pretty barmy, especially in the insane English dub. Honestly though, as much as I did miss a lot of stuff as a kid, the title fo this post is a little clickbait-y. Still, there’s some fun stuff in there that you may not have noticed if you watched it as a kid. Like references to ‘oppai’ and a dominatrix cat.

Manga vs. Anime: Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin

Whenever there’s any news about the show, this one gets a bunch of extra hits. It’s actually still my most popular post ever, though there is one that’s chasing after it. Still, this is one that I’m really proud of, so I’m happy to see it continuing to get attention.

Pokémon – Partner Up With Pikachu! [Anime Review – Family]

This was a really fun release. It’s very basic – dub only and no extras – but it’s supposed to be a budget one, so that’s cool. If you loved the original run of the series, it’s well worth a look-in as nostalgic blasts from the past go.

A&H Club Volume 1 by Rick Griffin [Graphic Novel Review – Furry / Lesbian / Drama]

Everyone loves lesbian furries it seems. This is the post that’s catching up with the Attack on Titan one. The thing is, the cover makes it look like it’ll be x-rated, but it’s actually not, at the very least in this volume. It’s heartbreaking, heartwarming, and the slow build towards love has been lovely to read. Keeping up with the next chapter online, there’s a lot of fun to come too.

As always though, there were a ton of posts that went live over the course of the month. So, split by overarching topic, here’s the full list.

What’s Coming In May?

Well now, where to begin here. One thing I learned over the last month was that less content seems to equal more hits for me. In April, I kinda let it get a little overwhelming in terms of how many posts went live. So, my aim overall in May is to keep it to two posts a day on most days, and three on some others. Obviously, if something comes up like the Sonic Movie Trailer that I feel like I simply have to write about, that’s different. I’ll add it in. Otherwise, though, the plan is as follows.

In terms of anime, I have two reviews queued up. These are Land of the Lustrous and Darling in the FRANXX. I’m also planning to do weekly reviews for Attack on Titan, but these will be a week behind as I’m not a premium member on Crunchyroll. I’d like to do another weekly review thing too but I’m not sure which series yet. Maybe I’ll pick another new one and an old one, who knows. Oh, and all being well, I’ll have a review for Girls’ Last Tour up this month too.

With books, I have fewer spotlights this month, but I’m working on some interviews and at least one review. This is part of keeping myself from overdoing it with posts. Though, I’m still always open to working with authors.

Comics posts should see a rise this month. I have the Sonic Annual 2019 to review, and we should also be seeing Sonic #16, as well as a manga review.  Meanwhile, video games will see me hopefully covering both Mortal Kombat 11 and Sonic Team Racing.

Film, TV and Wrestling will see me continuing my weekly coverage of OVW, and I’ll be finishing up the excellent Shadowhunters. You can also expect an OWLS post this month.

How About My Projects?

So, things are going well here, especially for books. Cassie Tam 1 actually broke the Top 30 in Amazon’s LGBTQ Sci-Fi Kindle Charts a few times over the month, and at one point, Cassie Tam 1, 2, and 3 were all in the Top 100. So, yay! Meanwhile, I’ve been struggling with the plan for the 5th and final book. I create a road map for each book before I start writing, and this one needs to tie the first four together. There was one scene that I’ve been really stuck on for a few days, and I finally managed to fix my issues with it on the 1st of May. So, whoo! Meanwhile, I have a plan in place for the next writing project after Cassie Tam ends too. I won’t say much yet but basically, think James Bond meets Aliens.

Now, cosplay…I finally have an update on that. I’m going to do something fun. Or stupid. Or potentially both. Those who’ve read my thoughts on films, either on here or Twitter, will know how much I love practical effects. Well, I found out how to make silicone masks like you’d see in horror movies. So, I have some materials coming. Here’s the thing though. I’ve not done this before, and I intend to just dive right in. So, I expect it to look a little amateurish when it’s done. Or at the very least, like a low budget effect. But, I’m gonna enjoy it, that’s the main thing. as to what it will be, @m going to combine the aesthetics with my love of Japanese culture and a slight leaning towards my furry roots. Basically, I’m gonna try to make a patchwork Kitsune. I intend to film the whole thing from start to finish too, so expect to see those posts this month if I don’t fluff the filming.

My webshop is now open. Autographed paperbacks will be coming, but right now it’s mostly just non-binary gender themed shirts. Still, I’ll be growing it all as I go. Once I get my set up sorted, I’ll also be opening up for voice recordings. Voice acting, voiceovers, messages, It’ll all be there. I’ll likely start that on Fivver. I like mic work, so I’m looking forward to it.

And…that’s about it! So, thank you all for sticking with me. Do you have a particular type of post you’re looking forward to in May? Or a favorite from April? Let me know in the comments below.
