Welcome, one and all, to today’s reaction post. This time around, we’re looking at the new story trailer for Mortal Kombat 11! So, if you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:
Now, I’m going to start with something that’s, objectively speaking, unimportant: the music used in the trailer. The song is called ‘War’ and it’s by T-Moe vs. Clearside. I’m told it appears in the Marvel TV show Cloak and Dagger. I really, really dislike it. Honestly, rap is a hard sell for me. As a musical genre, it rarely does anything other than bore me. There are exceptions, but they’re few and far between. Here, the song has the bonus of feeling really out of place to me. I’m crossing my fingers that the actual game will have an instrumental OST for the most part.
Like I said though, that’s unimportant. What matters is the content relating to the game’s story mode, right? So, what did I think of that? Well…I’m happy with it. Kronika is obviously going to be a key player in driving the story forward, and her statement about ‘drawing on allies from both eras’ really stuck with me. You see, technically, there are two MK timelines, the Midway one and the NetherRealm Studios one. To me, this sounds likes the game aims to essentially tie everything together once and for all.
The uniting of characters opens up some fun possibilities for old style mirror matches. What would make that really interesting is if the version you use changes the move set, so the older characters would use different specials, for example. Oh, and the scene with the two Johnny Cages was great. The look of utter annoyance on current Johnny’s face when his past self started talking about jet packs was absolutely perfect.
There are a lot of characters on show from across the history of the series too. I’ll be interested to see how many are playable and how many just appear in story mode scenes, at least before DLC kicks in. The blood soaked gameplay footage is everything we could hope for with the series too. Over the course of the last couple of games, I swear that it’s gotten more and more ludicrous in how brutal it gets.
In all, I’m still excited. Mortal Kombat has been a mainstay in my life since childhood, and so far, it’s even gotten close to making me step away from the series.
But what about yourselves? What you think of the story trailer? Let me know in the comments below.
I think it looks really great! I didn’t really mind the rap, though I agree that perhaps it’s not the most suitable song for this type of game. I’d expect that for something like a racing game or GTA. 🙂

AYe, I could see it fitting well with GTA. One thing I always liked with that series was the ability to switch the music deoending on your taste too. Still, i’m looking forward to getting stuck in to MK11 🙂
