30 Day Gaming Challenge: #24 – Favourite Classic Game

Welcome, one and all, to the latest installment of the 30 Day Gaming Challenge. Today, we hit Day 24, which is … My Favourite Classic Game.

sonic 3Ooh, now this one is easy. The very first game I owned on my favourite console of all time is the obvious choice here: Sonic 3 on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. I still remember the joy of waking up on Christmas morning and opening this with my brother. We set it up on the little TV in our shared bedroom, and that was it … we were hooked. The combination of playing as Sonic, Tails or both and all the cool little shield abilities was enough to keep us entertained for ages.

But what about yourselves? What was your favourite classic title?

  1. Sonic 3 combined with Sonic & Knuckles was so much fun. Great levels, superb music and who can forget the dizzying orb mini-game. Sensible Soccer is probably the game I played the most on Megadrive. I was obsessed with footy during that time of my life.

    1. Sensible Soccer was great. I didn’t hours at a mate’s house playing it on his Amiga, essentially using it like a championship manager clone. Our goal was always the same: get offered the Republic of Ireland job and coach then to World Cup glory. There was a striker called Stephen Geoghegan who was virtually free to buy, but who knocks in hundreds of goals a season.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles always get really revolutionary when it came out. That you could not only play Sonic 3 but Sonic 2 as Knuckles was incredible. I enjoyed the orbs too, and definitely agree on the level design and music. Flying Battery is still one of my favourite level musics.
