£20 Challenge – June 2018

Welcome, one and all, to today’s random post. This month, I gave myself a bit of a shopping challenge. The idea was to give myself a budget of £20, and try to get as much as I could for my money. Items can be new or second-hand, but the price has to include the postage. So, what did I end up with? Let’s take a look:

Absentia [Used DVD]: £2.55
This is a horror film that I first saw a few years back when I borrowed it from a work colleague. It’s one that I haven’t seen around too much, which is a shame, because I remember it doing a good job with atmospherics. This was the most expensive of the DVDs that I bought.

Oculus [Used DVD]: £1.76
Another horror film that I first saw a few years back, again after borrowing it from a work colleague. It’s one that I’ve been meaning to pick up for a while, so seeing it for £0.01 plus postage was more than enough to convince me to grab it.

Sinister [Used DVD]: £1.76
The only film on the purchase list that I hadn’t already seen. My exposure to this film was via a trailer before another film, back when it was just coming to the cinema. It looked really good, but I never got around to seeing it. So, this was the first one that we watched from this selection. My verdict? It was pretty good. Not as scary as I’d hoped, but there were a few good jump scares, and trying to spot the demon in the backgrond was fun.

Soul Eater 24 & 25 [Used Manga]: £7.54
I’m not sure why I never finished collecting this series before now, as I really did enjoy the manga. I managed to pick these up from the same seller for £3.77 each, which seemed like a really good deal. Now that I’ve read them, I may do a Manga vs Anime for the series.

After Hours [New Manga]: £6.28
My one ‘new’ purchase of the spree was for the yuri romance manga, After Hours. If you haven’t seen it already, you can read my full thoughts in my review.

Well, I kept my total spending below £20! Whoo! But what do you all think of my purchases? Did I get good deals? Let me know in the comments below.
