Wrestlemania 34 – How Did My Predictions Do?

Welcome, one and all, to the round-up of how I did with my Wrestlemania 34 predictions. To sum it up … a bit mixed. Let’s have a look.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Prediction: Woken Matt Hardy

Winner: Woken Matt Hardy

And I’m off to a good start. I called the Bray Wyatt appearance too. Though I thought that he’d potentially cost Matt the match, I’m actually pretty happy to see them teaming. It may give Bray the refresh he deserves.

Running score: 1 out of 1

Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali for the vacant Cruiserweight Title

Prediction: Cedric Alexander

Winner: Cedric Alexander

And we’re keeping on track! Like I said, this was a hard one to call, but I had a feeling that they’d go with Cedric.

Running score: 2 out of 2

Wrestlemania Women’s Battle Royal

Prediction: Sasha Banks

Winner: Naomi

Well, I fluffed that one. Ah well.

Running score: 2 out of 3 (which ain’t bad)

The Miz [c] vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor for the IC Title

Prediction: Seth Rollins

Winner: Seth Rollins

Whoo! Still going strong!

Running score: 3 out of 4

Charlotte Flair [c] vs. Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s Title

Prediction: Asuka

Winner: Charlotte Flair

This was actually my first real surprise of the event. It’s not a bad surprise either, as Charlotte is a great champ. It also makes Asuka’s matches less predictable moving forward.

Running score: 3 out of 5

Randy Orton [c] vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev for the US Title

Prediction: Rusev

Winner: Jinder Mahal

And suddenly, my score is slipping. I see that Rusev has been moved from the casket match with Undertaker to the Rumble in the upcoming ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ event in Saudi Arabia too. Allegedly, that was Lana’s doing. I wonder if that played into the result here?

Running score: 3 out of 6

Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

Prediction: Angle & Rousey

Winner: Angle & Rousey

That’s more like it. Honestly, I thought that Rousey did well too. She was maybe a little sloppy at times, but did you hear that reaction? That was what was needed for her in-ring debut.

Running score: 4 out of 7

The Usos [c] vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers for the Smackdown Tag Titles

Prediction: The Bludgeon Brothers

Winner: The Bludgeon Brothers

I for one am very happy to see this result. I’m a big fan of Luke Harper, and have been since his CHIKARA days, so seeing him get a run with a belt makes me smile.

Running score: 5 out of 8

John Cena vs. The Undertaker

Prediction: Undertaker

Winner: Undertaker

Well … that was quick. Still, it was the right result.

Running score: 6 out of 9

Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn (Owens and Zayn’s Smackdown careers on the line)

Prediction: Owens & Zayn

Winner: Bryan & Shane

This one surprised me. I still think that Owens and Zayn will find a way to stay on Smackdown, but we shall see.

Running score: 6 out of 10

Alexa Bliss [c] vs. Nia Jax for the RAW Women’s Title

Prediction: Alexa Bliss

Winner: Nia Jax

And the wrong results streak continues. Honestly, I should have seen this one coming.

Running score: 6 out of 11

AJ Style [c] vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the World Title

Prediction: Nakamura

Winner: AJ Styles

Given the post-match angle, I do expect Nakamura to take the gold soon. Either way, I’m all for the feud being drawn out a bit more.

Running score: 6 out of 12

The Bar [c] vs. Braun Strowman and TBD for the RAW Tag Titles

Prediction: The Bar

Winner: Strowman & Nicholas

Okay, so here’s the thing … I didn’t like what happened here. Aside from it making the RAW tag division look weaker, they immediately forfeited the titles the next night. Ugh. Utterly pointless.

Running score: 6 out of 13

Brock Lesnar [c] vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Title

Prediction: Roman Reigns

Winner: Brock Lesnar

Well, well, well … I read that the result was changed to Lesnar because Vince believes Reigns will get a better reaction winning the title in Saudi Arabia. If that’s true, then … that doesn’t change how people will react to him elsewhere.

Running score: 6 out of 14

So, I got a little under half the show correct. There were a few nice surprises in there though, so I’m happy enough. How did you all find the show?

  1. Wrestling is very difficult to predict so I think you did very well. I wonder if Nakamura will win the title. From what I hear he hasn’t lived up to the hype and language skills limit what he can do when building up feuds.

    1. I saw a promo he did on Smackdown this week and good English seemed pretty good. Wrist case scenario though, they could get him a mouth piece.
In a way, it seems odd to turn him as he was apparently shifting a lot of merchandise, which heels are a little more mixed at.

      1. Well, either that or when Rusev throws out 49 other wrestlers to win his title shot!

Do you even get a title shot if you win The Greatest Rumble? Who do you think will win the Greatest Rumble? I can’t look beyond Braun.

      2. Hmm … I could see it coming down to Braun Strowman, Daniel Bryan, Baron Corbin and Samoa Joe. Out of those, my guess is that, assuming Reigns does take the title, they’ll go with Daniel Bryan. If Lesnar retains though, then Strowman. That all hinges on the winner getting a title shot though, I don’t think they’ve confirmed that as yet, so if the winner doesn’t get a title shot, then it could be any one of them.

      3. I imagine the winner must get a title shot, but they haven;t confirmed anything yet…surely it must be a decent prize if you win a 50 man rumble?

I reckon it’s down to Braun, Cena or at a push, Joe -, people trusted to get something decent out of Roman over the summer. A returning Dean Ambrose wouldn’t shock me either…
