The 30 Day Anime Challenge continues on to Day 20, and the subject is … A Character That Annoys You. Now, this one is easy. Like, really easy. And here’s my answer:
Yup, it’s Kamina from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan. So, where do I begin? I never finished this show. See, after what I thought was one of the better opening episodes I’ve seen in anime, I found the show to just … go downhill really quickly. Inconsistent animation, a story that floundered, and a cast of characters that just felt dull to me.
Except Kamina. He was not dull. In the opening episode, he amused me. The more that I watched though, the more I thought great, he’s going to open his mouth again whenever he was on screen. His posturing got on my nerves, and his idiocy got on my nerves. What made him even worse was that by the time I gave up during episode 6, I already knew – and this is a spoiler by the way – that he was going to die in episode 8. That annoyed me even more because as much as I wanted him off my screen, I was also aware that he was the only character to get an emotional response out of me, and so I would likely stop watching at that point anyway.
So, to summarise, he annoyed me because he was there, and he annoyed me just as much because I knew that he wouldn’t be. Ugh.
But that’s just me. How about yourselves? Which anime character annoys you?
Noooo I love Kamina BECAUSE he’s annoying. 😦 We’ll have to agree to disagree here.
As for me, as much as I enjoy Naruto as a series, I found pre-Shippuden Naruto to be one of the most obnoxious, irritating characters I’ve ever seen on screen. And I know that’s basically how his character’s written, but eesh does it annoy me.

No problems with disagreeing on this one. It’s such a popular series, but I just don’t get it. To eahc their own though, it certainly has its audience 🙂
To this day, I’ve only seen one episode of Naruto, and that was a pre-Shippuden one. This thing is so huge, it’s almost daunting to consider starting it now.

Oh yeah, for sure. If I were in your shoes, there’s no way I’d even attempt to watch all of Naruto hahaha.

I ahve the same problem with One Piece at this point. I’ve left it way too long to get started!

It’s pretty neat to really sit down and have a go at long series, though. If you start the beginning … you are sitting there a decade later barely remembering the beginning and it’s really hard to care about anything ^^
(also Naruto doesn’t get any better in Shippuuden … just saying).

Heh. I think that part of why I didn’t start Naruto was that I read a couple of the manga chapters in Shonen Jump, but found it to be hit and miss. I think that the onyl really long series I’ve watched were Bleach (which I stopped after the Aizen arc and skipped over the filler arcs) and Ranma 1/2 (which I binge watched a few years ago as I hadn’t seen it and had the time). Most shows I follow don’t seem to go over 52 episodes, if they even get that far.
