Welcome, one and all, to day eight of the 30 Day Anime Challenge. Today’s challenge is … Your Favourite Anime Couple. Now, this one is nice and easy. I’m going to go for two entries here again, one that’s an official couple, and one that was never made official in the anime but was in the manga.
Holo and Lawrence in Spice and Wolf are pretty much the perfect couple in my eyes. The way their romance was slowly built up and grew felt really natural to me. I also absolutely love the way they play with each other; the jibes and the games are so much fun to watch, and they become even better when you see the playfulness fall aside to make way for genuine emotion. They fall hard for each other, they need each other, and they truly love each other. OK, so the anime didn’t adapt the full set of novels, but still … it got far enough for the romance to be clear. This AMV is a pretty good representation of it for me:
Meanwhile, Jessie and James from Team Rocket are a long-term shipping of mine. They’re a great team, and there were definitely a few moments where it kinda felt like there was some romance brewing. I get why they didn’t pull the trigger on it; it wasn’t really needed given the nature of the show. Still, I was glad to read that they did settle down together in the manga. This was my favourite Rocket Shipping scene for record:
Well…this one was a no-brainer for myself: Asuna and Kirito from Sword Art Online. I know a lot of people hate that show, but I loved it, and I really think those two worked well as a couple 😊

I see no issue with them as a couple. Honestly, I just didn’t get on with the show, but it was clear early on that they’d do well together I thought.

Glad to hear that both these couples hooked up on the printed page. Holo and Lawrence are so cute together. Really wish they would animate more Spice & Wolf.

Me too. Given the popularity of the show, I was surprised that they didn’t. Still, with the new short story collection not long out and the promise of more stories to come, it could happen.

Kou and Aoba in Cross Game. And I don’t even like baseball.

I must admit, I’ve not seen Cross Game, largely because I don’t follow baseball.

Well, can’t watch every anime ever, after all. Wasn’t really on my list to watch either – sports anime? Meh. And one where I don’t even know the rules of the sport? Double meh.
But turned out to be very good, and the subtle romance is fantastic.
