WWE Summerslam 2017 Predictions

Welcome, one and all, to today’s posting. It’s not book related, but it is booking related! See what I did there? Ahem. Anyway, this is my WWE Summerslam 2017 prediction posting. My luck has been pretty mixed with these things thus far this year. Heck, even NJPW G1 Climax 27 picks on Voices of Wrestling’s annual competition were, uhm, up and down. So, let’s see if I do any better here.

WWE Universal Tile Match

Brock Lesnar [c] vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman

This is actually probably the hardest match on the card to call. With rumours of Lesnar and Jon Jones clashing, it could be time for him to take a break. Plus, having a full time champ would open things up a bit more again. I initially thought that Joe vs. Lesnar II was the way this would eventually head, but the pull apart with Strowman and Lesnar is telling I think. Strowman takes the victory and we build to Lesnar vs. Strowman followed by Joe vs. Strowman.

WWE Smackdown Women’s Title Match

Naomi [c] vs. Natalya

I’m not certain what to make of this one. I’m going to say Natalya, just because I think that it’s about time she took the belt. That and I worked on a couple of shows that also featured her father, Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart.

WWE RAW Women’s Title Match

Alexa Bliss [c] vs. Sasha Banks

Sasha for the win. Alexa has been really great in her role, but Sasha deserves it.

WWE Championship Match

Jinder Mahal [c] vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

While I suspect that we get a title retention here, I’m going to pick Nakamura. His going over John Cena was a good sign, and the crowd loves him, so why not switch the title to him? Plus, Corbin lost is briefcase shot. I don’t think that they’d go with Corbin vs. Nakamura again just yet, so having Corbin lose out kinda sets things in motion in my head for Nakamura.

WWE Cruiserweight Title Match

Akira Tozawa [c] vs. Neville

It feels too soon for Tozawa to lose the title, and playing hot potato with the belt would be too similar to what had been happening with AJ Styles and Kevin Owens recently, so I’m going with Tozawa for the win here.

WWE US Championshop Match – Shane McMahon as Special Referee

AJ Styles [c] vs. Kevin Owens

I’m going to go with AJ Styles retaining here after some tomfoolery with Shane not counting an Owens win. That’ll lead to the eventual Team Owens vs. Team Shane at Survivor Series. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get a straight owens vs. Shane amtch at a PPV before then.

Singles Match

Randy Orton vs. Rusev

Orton is going to win. I do think that it should be Rusev that comes out of this looking the strongest, but I don’t think it will be.

WWE Smackdown Tag Titles Match

The New Day [c] vs. The Usos

This is a hard one to call because there’s not too much waiting for either team after the feud. I’ll go with The New Day as The Uso’s got a win on Smackdown. Even booking and all that.

Singles Match – Enzo Amore in a shark cage

Big Show vs. Big Cass

Honestly, Big Show has been on fine form in my eyes. He’s there to put the up and comers over though, and that’s exactly what I foresee happening here. Big Cass takes it. There are rumours that Enzo will turn on Show too. That could be interesting. I suspect he’s just going to get destroyed by Cass and sent back to NXT though.

Singles Match

Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt

Draw. To me, that’s the way this has to go. Have it spill out of control after ten minutes and let them get chaotic. Show that the ring can’t contain either of the Demon or the Eater of Worlds. Build it to a big gimmick clash later on.

Singles Match

John Cena vs. Baron Corbin

I’ll go with John Cena here, but with Corbin getting his heat back afterwards. Whether that means a DQ win for Cena or a post match beating, I don’t know.

WWE RAW Tag Titles Match

Cesaro & Sheamus [c] vs. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins

It’s been building so long that the obvious result would be the former Shield getting the win. I’m going to take a risk and go another way with this though: Ambrose turns on Rollins and Cesaro & Sheamus retain as a result.

Six-Person Tag Match

Jason Jordan & The Hardyz vs. The Miztourage

I can see Jason Jordan getting the pin over Miz here. I don’t thin kthat Miz will lsoe the IC Title to him any time soon, in fact I can see Jordan failing in that and turning heel on Angle for pushing him too soon while Miz moves onto someone else (maybe Matt Hardy if the Broken thing ever comes to WWE). Still the good guys get the win here.

Well, there we go. Let’s see how badly I do this time. And yourselves? Any predictions?

    1. Not a bad tally. Predicting wrestling results can’t be easy. Unlike sports were you can base things on form, WWE often book matches with the intention of causing a surprise.
