30 Day Anime Challenge: #5 – Anime You’re Ashamed You Enjoyed

The 30 Day Anime Challenge continues on to day five with … Anime You’re Ashamed You Enjoyed.

Ugh. OK, here’s the thing: if I take this literally, the answer is none. I either enjoy something or I don’t, and shame does not come into it. So, rather than end the post here, I’m gonna cheat slightly and go with the anime I was incredibly surprised that I enjoyed. That particular title goes to Keijo!!!!!!!! (AKA Hip Whip Girl).

keijo-1

If you’ve not read it yet, check out my previous review of the show. That will give you a much more detailed run down of what I enjoyed about the show (as well as what I didn’t). The basic gist though is this:

I expected: A show that was nothing but fan service, featured unlikable characters and yet still seemed to take itself far too seriously.

I got: An anime that was flawed, but that was neither afraid to be silly, nor incapable of adding a serious edge when appropriate.

Yes, there was plenty wrong with this anime, but it was certainly entertaining!

That all being said, do any of you have an anime that you’re ashamed that you liked?

  1. I know this anime only because my nephew showed it to me and as I watched, I laughed at the silliness of girls using their boobs and buns to knock each other off platforms. Definitely fun and most definitely I’m ashamed to say I enjoyed. It’s difficult not to feel a little pervy watching it.

  2. I watch a lot of fan service shows so I wouldn’t be ashamed about liking Keijo. For me, I suppose certain romance shows would be a guilty pleasure. As a manly chap I shouldn’t enjoy mushy stuff.

  3. I was pretty surprised when I enjoyed Blood C a lot. It was incredibly gory and over the top, but I still found it quite entertaining. As for this one, I haven’t seen it, but know about it through a lot of reviews for this series. I might even check it out at some point 😊 Sometimes you just need some guilty pleasures in your life lol 😊

      1. Yep, it’s the Vampire on. Or should I say it it is the follow up to Blood the Last Vampire. It’s bloody, gory and an awful mess at times, but it still entertains anyway lol 😊

  4. The show was kinda so silly it made it a really fun experience. And it made the sport of Keijo as over the top as it is, seem important and fun.And then of course we got the fanservice but they didn’t rely on it. A surprise indeed!

    1. Aye, the lack of relying on fan service was what swerved me the most with it. I honestly expected it be utter dross, either a non-stop cavalcade of fan service or something that took itself far too silly for the concept, but somehow, it struck a good balance. A pleasant surprise with a surprising amount of similarities to Sumo.

  5. I really need to watch Keijo. Then again, I haven’t been watching anything lately :/

With you on shame not being in the equation when it comes to enjoyment.
