Way Cool Wednesday – 19th April 2017

Welcome, one and all, to this month’s Way Cool Wednesday! Herein, we shall once again be exploring the wonderful world of ‘cool things hiding in the internet’. But what has my pointless vrowing turned up this time? Let’s find out.

WAY COOL VIDEO: A FOX TALE

So, I was hunting around for information relating to Japanese folklore, with a focus on Kitsune spirits. My first stop was to search for tales on YouTube, and while most of what I found amounted to collections of general information, I did stumble upon this little beauty. Clocking in at around 6 minutes, the almost Pixar-esque animation tells the story a fox eluding capture by tricking its would-be foes with some of that ol’ Kitsune magic. It’s nicely done, and the story is rather charming.

WAY COOL ARTICLE: BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA – THE HIDDEN HERO AMIDST THE TROUBLE

Some films try to be clever (Primer, take a bow). Others try to provide a visual feast (Here’s looking at you, Sucker Punch). Some films get taken as instant classics (Stand up, Gone with the Wind). Then there are the cult classics. Rarely are they remembered as the smartest, prettiest or most important films, but my word, they sure are fun. And that’s where Big Trouble In Little China comes in. John Carpenter may not have created an accurate representation of Oriental mythology, but that doesn’t mean the film isn’t worthwhile. This article explains the journey of the lead characters and how they diverge from the common action adventure stories of the time, creating something that was at least fresh, if not destined to be an Oscar winner.

WAY COOL VIDEO: ALIEN COVENANT – THE LAST SUPPER

When Alien 5 was announced as likely to ret-con Alien 3 out of the canon, I was very upset. I love the bleakness of that film, and it sits an easy second behind the original Alien film in terms of my faovurites of the original trilogy. Aliens? Pah. Decent film, but it’s an action flick, not a film that makes me worry for the lead characters. Prometheus 2? I expected a train wreck after the first one. The Predator though, now there’s a film I have high hopes for. Regardless though, Prometheus 2 suddenly became Alien Covenant, and a prequel short called Last Supper was released. This reminds me so much of the original Alien, and even has a bit of a reference to one of the film’s most harrowing scenes. Suddenly, I’m looking forward to this.

WAY COOL BLOG POST: NARUTO DESERVES ITS POPULARITY [LETHARGIC RAMBLINGS]

https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/54475394/posts/1389514381

Naruto was one of those seriess that I didn’t particularly dislike, but nor was I a big fan. Here, Lethargic Ramblings gives a wonderfully detailed account as to why the show’s enduring popularity is well deserved. It’s a great post, even if Naruto was never your cup of tea.

WAY COOL MUSIC: GREG CIPES – FREE ME

Greg Cipes is perhaps best known for his portrayals of Mikey in Nickelodeon’s TMNT and beast Boy in Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go. he is also one of the people that I would fantasy cast in The Spark Form Chronicles were it a TV show ro film. Anyway, Greg is also an accomplished musician, and I can highly recommend his album Conscious Revolution. This video is for a song from that particular disc, Free Me, and it is a wonderful track to just sit back and relax to. Enjoy the magic that is Mr Cipes and his band.

And so ends our latest journey into the fun and whacky world of the internet. Thanks for reading everybody, I’ll catch ya later.
