Hello, hello, hello! This week, I’m going to take a little detour through YouTube and share with you some of my favourite AMVs. Fan created music videos are something that I’ve found to be a useful tool in getting a feel for different series, and I have at times used these a measuring stick as to whether to check a series out more urgently or not.
This first one I’d like to share is probably my favourite AMV at the moment:
Series: Steins;Gate
Song: No Light, No Light by Florence and the Machine
Creator: Shin
What a glorious piece that is! A beautifully edited video featuring not only a terrific song but one the best anime series that I’ve ever seen. The video does a great job of showing off the various character designs, as well as the superb animation quality of the actual show, and was something that I tumbled across shortly after first discovering the series. Great stuff.
Next up, something a little older:
Series: Evangelion
Song: This Isn’t What We Meant by Savatage
Creator: Thomas Langer (I think … it isn’t clearly indicated)
Before the rebuild project came the original ground breaking show. What we get here is a terribly underrated song by an equally underrated band, set to a series that is anything but underrated. Not only does the song convey a suitable feel for the series, the way that the different clips have been set to synch up with the guitars is really well done.
Where shall we go next? A silly journey to the West:
Series: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
Song: You’re Gonna Go Far Kid by The Offspring (sped up)
Creator: Again, I’m assuming it’s the uploader, but I could be wrong
Now, I rather enjoy MLP:FiM, and Rainbow Dash was a character that, when I first saw the trailers, I expected to dislike … but nope, she’s awesome. This song just seems to suit her somehow and having her synch up with the vocals at the start always brings a smile to my face.
Finally, another of my favourite series gets the AMV treatment:
Series: Durarara!
Song: Teenagers by My Chemical Romance
Creator: BecauseImBored1
Durarara is one of those shows that it took a remarkably short amount of time for me to fall in love with, and this particular AMV does a good job of showing off the full array of key characters and some of the big action scenes. I should point out that there is lot more going on in the series that simply violence and it’s definitely a show that I would recommend to anyone.
So there you go, a bunch of cool AMVs. So what are your favourites?
